Light is the only part of an event set-up nobody photographs directly — yet it decides how every photograph turns out. A lawn at sunset becomes a reception hall, a farmhouse becomes intimate, a pool becomes scenery: almost always, the difference is the right lights in the right place. In this guide you will find everything you need to light a wedding or event with rentals: types, real prices, budget examples and the practical advice we give every week to the people who visit our showroom.

How much does event lighting cost to rent?

Let us start with the question everyone asks first. Lighting rental costs per piece range from €2.50 for decorative candles up to about €110 for large statement pieces. To give you a concrete idea, here are three typical set-ups calculated with our catalogue prices:

Scenario What it includes Indicative rental cost
Elegant villa dinner
(40 guests, 6 serpentine tables)
12 designer table lamps + 24 Lunaris candle holders from ~€240
Outdoor wedding

2 nine-metre festoon runs with 6 freestanding poles (3 per run) + 15 table lamps + 60 LED candles from ~€900
The showpiece: suspended chandeliers

The 4 families of event lighting (and when to use them)

1. Festoon string lights — the "dinner under the stars" effect

Filament string lights are the number-one request for outdoor weddings, for a reason: they turn any open space into a room. They are stretched over the tables, hung between trees, or mounted on dedicated freestanding poles (from €80) when there is nothing to anchor to. A single string light run starts at €15.

Showroom tip: a 35-metre imperial table needs 6 well-tensioned festoon runs, not 4 stretched to the limit — the light should "fall" softly above people's heads, not sit taut. And do the maths on the poles: one freestanding pole holds at most 4 metres of lights, so laying out a single nine-metre run normally takes 3 poles. In larger compositions — a rectangle over the banqueting table, parallel rows across the whole area — intermediate poles are shared between runs: it is the pattern you want to see from above, even more than the metres, that decides how many poles you need. It is the detail that separates a magazine-worthy installation from an improvised one.

2. Designer table lamps — the table setting that lights up

The strongest trend of recent years: small lamps and shades directly on the tables, instead of (or alongside) classic centrepieces. They give a warm light that flatters faces — the secret of beautiful dinner photos — and define the style of the table. In our catalogue they start at €10-15: from the natural lines of Lino, Juta and Botanica, to the bold colours of Azzurra, Indigo and Rouge, up to the classics Lumière and Ziggy.

Showroom tip: one lamp every 4-5 place settings is the right proportion; alternate them with flowers rather than replacing them entirely.

3. Candles and diffused light — atmosphere, safely

No venue forbids atmosphere; many forbid open flames. Our Soffio di Natura decorative candles (from €2.50, also in pink and green, or in matching sets) and our LED candles (€3) give the warm flicker of wax without fire, dripping or trouble in the wind. They are also the cheapest line in the lighting budget: €100 "lights up" 30-40 diffused points of light.

4. Statement pieces — the light everyone remembers

Every memorable event has one spot everyone photographs. Statement lights exist to build it: the Sfera glowing sphere (from €110) in a garden at night, Iris (from €100) for entrances and pathways, Lumora LED floor lights (from €25) to punctuate walkways, steps and lounge corners.

The showpiece set-up — the one we see work best at carefully styled weddings — is the arch stand with a Sfera or Iris suspended from it: a chandelier floating over the table, outdoors, where no chandelier could exist. The rule is one stand per table: repetition is what creates the scenography — a ballroom effect in the middle of a lawn. Allow ~€180-190 of rental per table.

How to choose: 4 rules from professional event stylists

  1. Always warm light (2700-3000K). Cold light belongs in offices: at an event it dulls the colours of the table setting and the faces of your guests.
  2. Work in layers. A successful set-up combines at least two levels: ambient light from above (festoon runs) and low light on the tables (lamps or candles). The third layer — the statement piece — is what signs the event.
  3. Think about power first, not after. In historic venues and outdoors, sockets are few and far away: in the quote we always flag what is needed (extensions, connection points) so there are no surprises on the day.
  4. No trees or beams? Don't give up on festoon lights. Freestanding poles exist precisely for this — it is the question we get asked most often, and the answer is yes, it can be done (almost) anywhere.

Frequently asked questions about lighting rental

How far in advance should I book wedding lights?

For weddings from May to September we recommend 3-6 months in advance: festoon runs and poles are the most requested items of the season. For events in other periods a few weeks is often enough.

Can festoon lights be installed indoors?

Yes: halls, farmhouses and industrial spaces are actually where they look best. With freestanding poles there is no need to drill or anchor to walls.

Do I need a technician or an electrician?

For simple set-ups (table lamps, candles) no: they arrive ready to use. For overhead festoon runs and statement pieces, the quote states whether our installation is included.

Do you only deliver in Rome and Lazio?

No: we deliver all over Italy. Our base is Rome, with a showroom in Anagni (FR) — transport costs depend on the destination and are shown in the quote.

Can I see the lights before renting them?

Yes, in our Anagni showroom by appointment: book a visit and you will see them switched on, styled with furniture and tableware.

How much does it cost to light a whole wedding?

It depends on spaces and guests: the wedding lighting set-ups we handle typically range from €400 to €1,000 of rental — up to ~€1,500 with the suspended-chandelier look over every table. The best thing is to tell us about your event: the quote is free and arrives within 24 hours.
